When planning the care we wanted to offer the community I looked to nature and how a tree grows through the 4 seasons we have here in Canada, we see the surface but never the roots. They may be injured below but not show on the surface. If we heal the roots, we heal the the whole.
Breathing life in to Mending Roots Therapy Care
My name is Shannon Sheehy RN, Nurse Psychotherapist and I am the founder and Chief Nurse of Mending Roots. I have over 19 years experience in nursing and community health. Including but not limited to specialized geriatrics,
including behaviour support, cognitive assessments and coping with caregiver role strain. I have extensive Youth Mental health experience having worked with the Mental Health and Addictions team with the school boards. Strong advocacy skills, Peri-Natal intensive care certification, youth mental health including neuro-cognitive development and care and Nursing Psychotherapy certification CNP/CPN (Q).
My goal is to provide therapy with a health and healing lens with action towards building better root strength.
My name is Kody Kearns, and I am a dedicated and compassionate registered social worker with over a decade of experience working with children, teens, and adults who have experienced trauma, anxiety, and challenging life circumstances. I graduated from York University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Social Work, resulting in my career as a Registered Social Worker.
My passion and experience for helping children and families who have experienced trauma and adversity led me to pursue a career in counselling. I use a relational approach and dyadic developmental psychotherapy approaches with youth and caregivers to help strengthen their relationships. My focus is on creating a safe and supportive environment where clients can explore their thoughts and feelings, and develop the skills they need to overcome challenges and thrive.
I have worked with a wide range of clients, including children, teens, and adults who have experienced abuse, neglect, anxiety, and traumatic events. I am known for my ability to connect with my clients and create a safe and supportive environment where they can explore their thoughts and feelings.
My approach to counselling is deeply rooted in empathy, compassion, and respect. I believe that every client has the ability to heal and grow, and that my role as a counsellor is to provide the support and guidance they need to do so. I use a variety of evidence-based techniques, including cognitive-behavioral therapy approaches, mindfulness, and trauma-informed therapy, to help my clients develop the skills and resilience they need to overcome their challenges and thrive.
The building blocks of our health are made up of 4 pillars: sleep, nutrition, body movement and intellectual activity. If you have worked with me, you know I say this all the time.
